Uganda National Meteorological Authority which is under Ministry of Water and Environment is a semi autonomous government authority for weather and climate services.
The World Meteorological Day was celebrated on 23 March, 2018 at Akii Bua Stadium, Lira District. The Theme of the Day was: ‘Weather-Ready, Climate Smart’. The Director of UNMA and the guest of Honor, RDC of Lira, presided over the celebrations in Lira District..
Various schools participated in painting competitions about ‘weather and how it affects communities’. The best schools were offered awards at the 2018 World Meteorological Day. Different Schools, Exhibitors, UNMA staff, Partner organizations and Funders attended the celebrations.
Under its mandate to promote and monitor weather and climate, the UNMA Staff endeavored to sensitize
the public about weather instruments and their uses to inform weather predictions and advisories. This would effectively manage the increasing climate related hazards like heavy rains and droughts.
